War films have been a popular genre since the creation of film in the late 1800s. There are films about war from around the world because everyone’s perception and experience of war is completely different. Also, wars feature in many different genres as well such as westerns (cowboys shoot outs), science fiction (Star Wars is based on an imaginary intergalactic war) and costume dramas.
Adventure, much like horror, is a well established genre within film. Action and adventure are very similar in terms of structure, however, action films rely more on violence whereas adventure is more about following along on a journey. Harry Potter is a worldwide phenomenon, it made around 8 billion dollars in the worldwide box office and it is absolutely adored by fans. No other book series has had quite the outstanding success that Harry Potter has. Some have got close, for instance The Hunger Games, but none still have such cultural relevance nearly twenty years on.
Romantic comedies are a very popular and established genre, in 2019 the genre made 122.34 million in the US box office. It’s easy to see why these films are so popular, they’re generally light easy watches that don’t require you to have a PhD in Film Studies to understand what’s going on.
